Straits Energy invests in Malaysian smart port project

Straits Resources Berhad is set to embark on a transformation project to turn Labuan Port into a Smart Port, in alignment with the Federal Government’s vision of developing Labuan into a smart city by 2030.

The project, signed as a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Straits CommNet Solutions and Megah Port Management, is expected to receive an investment of 3.6 million Malaysian Ringgit (€718,000) for the initial two phases.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 14 months and aims to enhance the infrastructure and services quality of Labuan Liberty Port.

By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, such as IoT and AI, the Smart Port will automate operations, integrate IoT sensors for cargo monitoring, apply AI-driven logistics for cargo handling, and implement blockchain for enhanced transparency and security of cargo transactions.

The project aligns with global trends toward smart ports, which improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance environmental sustainability.
