Erik Roscam Abbing is a consultant, teacher and thought leader with 30 years of working experience in a career that has been a mix of entrepreneurship, strategic consulting, teaching and public service in design thinking, industrial design, service design, innovation strategy, urbanism and sustainability.
Erik specializes in sustainable urban development, with a strong focus on where cities meet water: the overlap of urban and marine ecosystems offers challenges such as water living, flood resilience, water mobility, aquaculture, sustainable tourism, harbour redevelopment, blue carbon and marine conservation. Erik currently works as independent consultant for clients in real estate, urban development, marine conservation and water mobility.
Erik will present an innovative software solution to prevent whale deaths through ship strikes. Developed by a consortium consisting of Whale Guardians, Bogerd Martin, Dice consulting and Lux Space, the solution allows shipping companies to avoid known whale populations by safely and economically planning their route on the basis of data driven routing recommendations and planning algorithms.
