Environment is one of the 3 top risk factors contributing to certain non-communicable diseases.
Air pollution is the second leading cause of deaths from noncommunicable diseases, only surpassed by tobacco smoking.
Relatively speaking, this is quite new information for many people, as it was only in 2018, the third UN, high level meeting recognized indoor (including household) and outdoor air pollution as significant risk factors for NCDs.
For those not familiar with the term, a non-communicable disease (NCD) is a disease that is not contagious from one person to another. NCD’s include strokes, most heart diseases, and most cancers.
