Lifting Across the North Sea: LGH Powers Offshore Wind Progress
As the global push for renewable energy accelerates, offshore wind farms are emerging as a cornerstone of sustainable infrastructure. Behind the scenes, these monumental projects rely on precision engineering, expert rigging, and powerful lifting solutions. LGH recently supported a major operation that spanned two coastlines of the North Sea – demonstrating the scale, complexity, and reliability required to move the machinery that drives clean energy forward.
From Blythe to Esbjerg: A Cross-Sea Heavy Lift
The operation began in Blythe, UK, where LGH supplied a Modulift MOD400/600 spreader beam at 14 metres, along with heavy-duty shackles and industrial-grade slings.
The task? Lifting a subsea boring machine onto a docked vessel. This machine is designed to bore deep into the seabed, laying the groundwork for offshore wind pylons – an essential step in expanding wind energy capacity.
Once loaded, the vessel made its way across the North Sea to Esbjerg, Denmark. Over the bank holiday weekend, LGH’s equipment was again deployed to off-load the machine and lift it onto the Blue Tern jack-up barge. From there, it headed out to sea to begin its mission: drilling the foundations for the next generation of offshore wind turbines.
Equipment That Delivers
LGH’s lifting gear was instrumental throughout the operation, providing the strength and stability needed for such a demanding task:
- Modulift MOD400/600 spreader beam (14m)
- High-capacity shackles
- Durable lifting slings
These components, from leading manufacturers, were selected not just for their load-bearing capabilities, but for their adaptability to complex project requirements and oversized and breakbulk cargo. The breakbulk industry has faced some challenges, particularly about the type of cargo that is being moved. It is increasingly complex and oversized – LGH stands out with a growing fleet of specialist and high-capacity equipment for rent across Europe.
Supporting the Future of Energy
This project is a testament to LGH’s commitment to supporting the infrastructure behind renewable energy. Whether it’s lifting subsea machinery, rigging oversized components, or providing modular solutions for offshore platforms, LGH delivers expertise and equipment that meet the highest standards of safety and performance.
LGH prioritises safety above all else. Compromising safety can lead to injuries, equipment damage, and the deterioration of breakbulk loads. They assure their customers that the equipment rented for lifting and moving cargo is supported by the industry’s best equipment, all of which has undergone rigorous testing and certification by their expert team. Customers can rest assured that their cargo is in the safest hands in the industry.
