Hakkers, Van Oord and De Klerk to construct tugboat quay wall

The consortium between Hakkers, Van Oord and De Klerk is due to start construction of a new tugboat quay in the Yangtzekanaal, Netherlands. The project is part of the Widening Yangtzekanaal programme, with completion scheduled for spring 2025.

The project involves widening the Yangtzekanaal’s navigation path by a length of 500 m. The new quay wall should offer twelve berths. The largest container ships use the Yangtzekanaal to sail to and from the APMT 2 and RWG terminals in the Prinses Amaliahaven.

Hakkers, Van Oord and De Klerk are keeping sustainability at the top of the agenda by using electric equipment, to help reduce carbon emissions during construction.

In this part of the port, the Port Authority is building another 2,400 m of quay wall for container ships. The aim is to significantly increase traffic in the Yangtzekanaal.

The Port Authority also intends to widen 1,400 m of the Yangtzekanaal to the west of the existing Antarctica quay before 2030. This will be achieved by constructing a quay wall with waiting berths for inland shipping. After dredging work to increase the depth, this will create more space to ensure that the Yangtzekanaal is future-proofed for the latest generation of container ships, measuring 430 m by 66.5 m.
