Launch of Symphony Atlantic Ecobox XL

In Scheepswerf Ferus Smit in Leer (DE), the launch of Symphony Atlantic Ecobox XL, has been announced. Symphony Atlantic is the first in a series of two Ecobox XL vessels, which are an evolution of the successful Ecobox and Ecobox DP series that the yard has delivered to Symphony in recent years.

The new Ecobox XL design focuses on loading extra-long items, such as windmill blades, while still maintaining good capabilities as a general cargo ship. The modified system and design are also aimed to further enhance the ship’s green performance, with a reduction in EEDI-score to a new class reference standard.

The XL ships are 18m wide, so have additional cargo deadweight capacity and can maintain flexible loading by keeping a very low resistance on both flat water and on waves. Fuel consumption is also reduced by integrating a novel ORC waste heat generator in the propulsion system. The fuel system will also be suitable for bio-blend fuels.

The Ecobox XL ships have a maximum loading capacity of around 12,500 deadweight tons (11,340 tonnes), a large floor space for project cargo, two 85 tons (83.7 tonnes) cargo cranes, and has been designed to reduce fuel costs and be more sustainable than previous designs.
