Jumbo Maritime’s HLV completes biofuel Atlantic voyage

Dutch heavy lift shipping company and offshore transport and installation contractor, Jumbo Maritime, has announced the successful voyage of its heavy lift vessel (HLV) Jumbo Jubilee across the Atlantic powered mostly with biofuel.

The vessel bunkered the biofuels at the Port of Rotterdam and loaded three Liebherr cranes onboard before commencing the voyage across the Atlantic.

Biofuel has been recognised for its potential as a solution to decarbonising the shipping sector. Jumbo Alliance also discovered that biofuel results in a reduction of bunker calls, which reduces costs and makes voyages more time efficient.

Two of the cranes onboard were successfully delivered to Boston and Port Hueneme in the US, whilst the third was dismantled and hidden below deck to be shipped to Rio Haina, Dominican Republic. The cranes weighed approximately 400 tonnes.
