The work included the transportation and installation of two jackets for their client Ørsted that will provide the foundation for the Hornsea 2 wind farm’s RCS and OSS platforms.

Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 wind farm is located approximately 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea, and the project will consist of 165 turbines with a combined total capacity of 1.4 GW.

Sleipnir traveled to the OSS location on September 29 and installed the 5000 metric tonne OSS jacket after transferring the 1500 metric tonne RCS jacket and piles to the Sleipnir deck. After moving to the shallow water RCS location, Sleipnir installed the RCS Jacket.

The successful and safe installation completes around two years of a close partnership between Ørsted, their fabricator SMOE in Batam, and Heerema’s transportation subcontractor Biglift. Heerema we will be back to complete their scope at Hornsea 2 in 2021.

Sleipnir is the world’s most sustainable SSCV, and during the project, the vessel performed the full installation operations while running on emission-reducing LNG fuel. Using LNG, Sleipnir reduces CO2 emissions by 25%, reduces NOx emissions by 92%, reduces SOx emissions by 99%, and Particulate Matters by around 99% compared to traditional Marine Gas Oil crane vessels. This action is in line with Heerema’s announcement that the company will go Carbon Neutral in 2020.

Sleipnir moved on to the Tolmount Platform installation following the successful completion of Hornsea 2.
