Tetrahedron wins award for new offshore wind crane

Tetrahedron has won Windpower Monthly’s innovation of the year award for its novel cranes that can install the next generation of 12-20-MW offshore wind turbines. The cranes can upgrade existing wind turbine installation vessels with minimal modification to the hull or be installed on new ones.

ALS TRANSPORT WIND TURBINE TO IRELAND

For this particular project ALS arranged for the smaller wind turbine components to be trans-shipped straight onto MAFI trailers for shipment to Ireland and then onward carriage to final destination.

The larger components were trans-shipped directly onto Irish trailers, as the dimensions exceeded the size that the MAFI Trailers could accommodate.

CSSC Shipyard Delivers First of Eight F900 Eco-Lifters to UHL

The first in a series of eight state-of-the-art F900 Eco-Lifters newbuildings, MV UHL Faith, was delivered to United Heavy Lift (UHL) on January 18. UHL is taking delivery of the newbuilding MV UHL Faith at the CSSC shipyard in Hudong, China. “We affirm our company’s commitment to contributing to an eco-friendly shipping industry by investing in fuel-efficient tonnage. We look forward to taking delivery of six identical newbuildings in 2021 and two in early 2022.” says Mr. Rolner, senior advisor and founder of the United Group.

The Mineraloelraffinerie Oberrhein (MiRo) in Karlsruhe is preparing for its major scheduled turnaround in 2021. As part of this, the reactor head of the FCC plant is to be replaced and will be the largest single component lifted. The refinery turned to Mammoet for this project, thanks to its active participation in the project’s technical preparation, as part of an engineering study, and many years of trustful cooperation between the two organizations.

Pinto Basto & ZOOM Cargo with Shipment of Long Screws

Pinto Basto are pleased to share a recent project performed with PCN partner in the Czech Republic, ZOOM Cargo.

The cargo consisted of 9 long Archimedean Screws, with each one measuring 15.5 x 1.5 x 1.7m and weighing 6tn, plus their accessories loaded in 2 x 40’HC and 1 x 20’DC. The shipment was moved from the Czech Republic with the final destination of Dakar, Senegal.

FUGRO TAKES 3 OFFSHORE WIND CONTRACTS

Fugro has been awarded three geotechnical investigation contracts for IJmuiden Ver, the largest offshore wind farm (OWF) zone to be developed in the Dutch part of the North Sea.

he investigations for IJmuiden Ver are the most extensive the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) has organised to date and the resulting OWF zone will generate a total of 4 GW of renewable energy. The contracts include seabed investigation, an extensive laboratory testing programme, and development of an integrated ground model. State-of-the-art techniques, such as the generation of synthetic CPTs, will be applied to create the geological ground model and the results will be used for future developers’ tender submissions for the 429 km2 OWF zone.

DSHIP ADDS MV RONNIE TO MULTIPURPOSE FLEET

The MV Ronnie is the latest generation F-500 type vessel and part of a series of economic F-500 multi-purpose heavy lift vessels as part of dship Carriers’ fleet expansion program.

The vessels are optimized with a Becker Mewis Duct device and Becker Rudder leading to lower consumption further. The Becker Mewis Duct is an energy-saving device developed for full-form slower ships enabling either significant power savings at a given speed or, alternatively, the vessel to travel faster at a given power level.

Pandemic drives up vessel operating costs

Drewry estimates that average daily operating costs across the 47 different ship types and sizes covered in the report jumped 4.5% in 2020, compared to underlying increases of 2% and 2.5% respectively in the previous two years. This followed a period in which OPEX spending stagnated or contracted over three consecutive years by 8% in 2015-17.

 

ANTONOV AIRLINES PUTS AN-225 MRIYA AIRCRAFT INTO COMMERCIAL OPERATION

Ukrainian airline ANTONOV Airlines is launching its AN-225 Mriya into commercial operation to support customers in the heavy-lift market, where capacity is in high demand.

The Mriya, which has onboard loading equipment, and a cabin, which can be pressurized, will compliment ANTONOV’s fleet of seven AN-124s, two with a capacity of up to 150 tonnes. Earlier in the year, the AN-225 was actively involved in the delivery of humanitarian and medical cargoes and safely transported more than 1,300 tonnes of such cargoes to fight the COVID-19 pandemic

Tallest Ever Construction Work in Switzerland with Wolffkran’s Tallest Ever Cranes in Switzerland

In September the two WOLFF 7534.16 Clear cranes at the Roche Building 2 in Basel reached their final tower heights of 228 and 227 meters. This makes them the highest tower cranes ever erected in Switzerland to date. A record that is shared by Roche’s new office high-rise which will be Switzerland’s tallest building at 205 meters. The two flat-top cranes are joined by a WOLFF 224 B luffing jib crane. The three WOLFFs are in operation on the construction site located next to the River Rhine on behalf of Marti AG.

Canisius Select a Demag AC 100-4L All Terrain Crane for their Fleet

The people at crane service provider Canisius know they can rely on the quality of Demag cranes, which should come as no surprise given that an AC 40 City in the Beckum-based company’s fleet delivered consistent results for almost 20 years and that the current Demag AC 45 City that replaced it has proven to be just as flawless. “This is why we decided on the Demag AC 100‑4L when choosing a new crane in the 100-tonne class,” reports General Manager Christian Canisius, who picked up the crane in person together with his sister Ute Canisius-Schumacher and his father Clemens Canisius in Zweibrücken. The AC 100‑4L was handed over by Tadano Demag GmbH Sales Manager Helge Prüfer.

NEW RIGHTS FOR SEAFARERS KIDNAPPED BY PIRATES

The amendment, comes during a resurgence of recently reported piracy incidents.

The new rights are set out in the 2018 amendments to the ILO Maritime Labour Convention (MLC). They ensure that a Seafarer Employment Agreement (SEA) will stay in place while a seafarer is held captive by pirates on or off the ship – even if the seafarer’s contract expires or is terminated by the shipowner.

DEME’s Offshore Installation Vessel ‘Apollo’ Completes Construction Work at SeaMade

Construction works at SeaMade, Belgium’s largest offshore wind farm, have crossed the finish line with the last of 58 turbines successfully installed on 30 November. The SeaMade wind farm will provide green energy for 485,000 households and will lead to a significant reduction of annual CO2 emissions of at least 500,000 tonnes.

GIANT AUTOCLAVE TRANSPORTED FROM BELGIUM TO RUSSIA

The equipment is intended for the second autoclave line of the Amursk Hydrometallurgical Plant by JSC Polymetal.

KENC DESIGNS LIFTING TOOL FOR VAN OORD

ast week, marine contractor Van Oord, awarded Breman Machinery and KENC Engineering with the assignment to design and build a casing lifting adapter (CLA). The lifting tool supports the installation of 190 pin piles at Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm.

The CLA can handle 275 tonnes and is designed to connect with the temporary casing used during drilling operations. It is equipped with redundant safety pin connections and can be operated remotely. The lifting tool includes a subsea IP camera to provide real-time images during fitting operations.

MOVITRAM GRUAS' LIEBHERR DELIVERED ON SITE BY RIVER

It was not the job but accessing the site which posed a major challenge to crane contractor Movitram Grúas in Colombia. An LTM 1220-5.2 was required in the mountainous, forested coffee region to install a bridge. Movitram Grúas did everything it could possibly do to get the crane to the remote site. This included the Liebherr 220 tonne crane undergoing an eight kilometre river voyage on a barge on the Rio Cauca.

14 CREW KIDNAPPED FROM HEAVY LOAD CARRIER ZHEN HUA 7

Fourteen crew members of the heavy load carrier Zhen Hua 7 have been kidnapped by pirates while sailing in the Gulf of Guinea, reports maritime security adviser Dryad Global. One of the seafarers suffered a gunshot wound in his leg. This is the 8th offshore incident in just nine days.

DRUGS SEIZED ONBOARD HLV IN MEXICO

The Dutch-owned Heavylift vessel arrived at Ensenada on 12, November from USA (Palm Beach) via the Panama Canal with several luxury yachts on board.

It is reported that packages with cocaine were found hidden in or amongst the yachts. The ship and crew have been detained pending an investigation. The ship’s next port of call, according to the schedule, is Long Beach USA.

The new TCC 78000 heavy-duty gantry crane from Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH loaded 72 foundation piles for Denmark’s largest wind farm between May and September 2020

The first external loading for the Liebherr TCC 78000 heavy-duty gantry crane, was commissioned by EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH in cooperation with Vattenfall. Since 2008, the Rostock-based company EEW SPC has been a pioneer in the production of monopiles, which serve as foundation piles for offshore wind turbines. With the production of more than 1,900 monopile foundation piles, the offshore wind specialist has become the market leader for the production of this type of foundation.

Transport of a Cat 990 by Van der Vlist

Last week, 42/2020, Van der Vlist executed the transport of a Cat 990K, commissioned by NMT shipping.

After thorough planning, in cooperation with Van der Vlist Poland, the machine made the long journey from Poland to Antwerp. In the harbour, our technical staff were all geared up for the assembly of the body, cabin, rock protectors, stairway and bucket. The weight of a Cat 990K with cab and bucket is 81t.

From there, the machine is now being shipped to Jeddah by NMT shipping.

HORNSEA 2 JACKET INSTALLATION COMPLETE

Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 wind farm is located approximately 89 km off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea, and the project will consist of 165 turbines with a combined total capacity of 1.4 GW.

Sleipnir traveled to the OSS location on September 29 and installed the 5000 metric tonne OSS jacket after transferring the 1500 metric tonne RCS jacket and piles to the Sleipnir deck. After moving to the shallow water RCS location, Sleipnir installed the RCS Jacket.

ATRAN AIRLINES AND VOLGA-TRUCKS COMPLETE MULTI-MODAL DELIVERY

The delivery was organiSed in partnership with SIS Logistik GmbH from Frankfurt (Germany) to Perm (Russia) and included various transportation modes.

Once trucked from Frankfurt to Cologne, the equipment was loaded onto ATRAN’s Boeing 737-400SF to be transported to Moscow Vnukovo International Airport, where the carrier is based.

With the final destination being Perm, which lies within 1,154 km from Moscow, trucking delivery was chosen as the most preferable option. Volga-Trucks’ experienced team has now completed internal customs transit and safely delivered the equipment to Perm.

PT Chakra Jawara Add 6 and 4 Axel Lines from Cometto for New Projects

With this delivery of a 6-axle and a 4-axle module, the local customer PT Chakra Jawara, part of the TMT (Tiara Marga Trakindo) holding company, increased its modular range with additional 320t of payload capacity.

The new axle lines will be added to 10 other ones of the 1MS range and is fully compatible. The modular axle lines will be used for power plant projects based in construction sites and factories nationwide.

Total enters offshore wind sector in France

Total becomes a 20 per cent shareholder in the Eolmed floating wind farm pilot project, located in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Gruissan in France.

Attributed in July 2016, this 30 megawatts (MW) project will accelerate the development of a floating wind technology. Together with Qair, the historical developer and majority shareholder of the project, and its local partners, Total brings its experience in the conception, deployment and exploitation of offshore installations throughout their life cycle.

Exxon Contract Worth at Least $500MM to TechnipFMC

TechnipFMC (NYSE: FTI) reported Thursday that it has won a large subsea contract from a unit of Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) ranging in value from $500 million to $1 billion. Under the terms of the award from Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGE), TechnipFMC will manufacture and deliver the subsea production system for the proposed Payara project in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, the contract recipient stated.

MAMMOET MOVES WIND BLADES WITH ACCIONA

Collett Delivers Components for Burnfoot Hill East Wind Farm Extention

All turbine components for the Burnfoot Hill East wind farm extension have been successfully delivered from the Port of Grangemouth to Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire. The extension involved an additional three Vestas V112 wind turbines, each featuring 55m blades and 69m high towers. As the components arrived into the port, Collett’s experienced Projects Team planned the vessels discharge, transferring all components to their dedicated port side depot for storage before onward transport.

WAGENBORG TOWS 1,950-TONNE PORT CRANE FROM POLAND TO TATA STEEL

In Poland, the 62 metre high, 108 metre long and 32 metre wide crane – was placed on the pontoon ‘Wagenborg Barge 7‘, measuring 100 by 33 meters, and was towed by sea to IJmuiden after sea fastening. Two tugboats were used, Waterman and En Avant 30. According to Wagenborg, the transport had to shelter temporarily in the port of the Danish city of Frederikshavn, due to bad weather conditions. With some delay, the crane was moored in Tata Steel’s own seaport upon arrival.

TWO FIRSTS FOR LIEBHERR MARITIME CRANES

Rostock (Germany) August 2020 – In May this year the LHM 420 was delivered to Euroamérica S.A. in Campana, Argentina; fully disassembled and due for handover in June 2020. A number of mobile harbor cranes are already in operation in Argentina and serviced by the experienced local engineers from Liebherr Argentina S.A. However, this was a first for them too: the complete assembly of an LHM 420. Due to the current pandemic situation worldwide, the engineer from the head office, Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH in Germany, was unable to attend in person, so all provisions were made, so that he could nevertheless be on hand to provide any support and assistance required.

Relocation of unusual blade racks

Another successful operation completed for Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. Blue Water Shipping has been contracted to move blade racks from the quayside to the rear area in the port of Esbjerg. 

By means of a port crane rented from Port of Esbjerg, the racks were loaded on Blue Water’s SPMT (self-propelled modular transporter) for transportation to warehouse.

Bee Logistics with Air Charter of an AN-124

Bee Logistics have recently handled many air charter flights to Europe and Australia but they are pleased to share a most special flight of an Antonov-124.

The cargo was handled by Bee Logistics from India to Vietnam by chartered AN-124 aircraft, Mumbai to Cam Ranh (BOM-CXR). They coordinated perfectly with all parties to meet the requirements of the customer on time.

The year 2020 has presented a litany of challenges to the safe movement of global project cargo. While heavy lifts and engineered cargo movements always present challenges from a rigging and execution standpoint, we have also faced exceptional challenges on other fronts. These have included cancelled vessel bookings, port facilities as well as prefabrication/modulization yard closures, lack of vessel and facility access as well as travel restrictions.

Ainscough Crane Hire Assisting with Network Rail’s Track Safety Improvements

Ainscough Crane Hire’s Lancaster depot has worked with leading infrastructure and civil engineering firm Story Contracting to improve the safety of a railway line in Rotherham on behalf of its client Network Rail.

Story Contracting appointed Ainscough Crane Hire to help deliver work to strengthen an existing culvert in Rotherham on the TJC3 line. The work involved using a 450t crane to remove the train tracks before installing new beams for bridging over the existing culvert and then reinstating the train tracks.
